Minku, founded in 2011, specializes in leather bags for men and women. Every item is made by the founder, Kunmi, in her workshop.
Minku items infuse cultural codes of Nigerian life, resulting in a modern yet subtly sub-Saharan appeal.
Aso-oke, a fabric woven on hand looms in the founder's home region of South-Western Nigeria, plays protagonist in several of the items: whether re-imagined as a men's hoodie, or lining the interior of the brand's notebooks and leather accessories.
In 2014, the brand's founder was named one of Forbes Magazine's 30 most promising African entrepreneurs under 30; in 2016, she won the Entrepreneur of the Year award at her alma mater Virginia Tech's Black Alumni Awards.
